IPA – My Blue

Concept, Wireframes, Mockups, Testing
Project overview
I wrote this thesis as the final project of my apprenticeship as an interactive media designer at the School of Design in Bern. From March to April 2023, I worked intensively on the topic, the implementation and the writing of the IPA. In total 110 hours were scheduled for this work.

My contributions
I worked on all the stages of this project. From creating the idea & concept to making the final design and testing it with real customers.
In preparation for the "IPA", I needed to define the idea and scope of the project. The key goal of the project is to combine different Swisscom services in one app instead of having separate ones for each.

Preparation & planning
One of the first things I did was get to know my target group. Who uses the Swisscom services and what are their pain points? To do this I did a survey which was shared on socials. (Under real circumstances this would've been shared in the real customer pool, to get representative data.)

I grouped the participants into two user groups who share traits and pain points. I created one persona for each group to represent them in the design process.

- 18-25 y/o Group – Tania, 21
- 40+ y/o Group – Helen, 58

Research & target group
I always sketch the first version of my designs on paper, as it's efficient and the creativity flows better. I sketched out the most important screens, pulled them to my laptop, and made a small prototype to get a feel for the experience.

Due to personalization being the key focus of the app, the navigation needed to be thought about in more detail. I made three concepts for the navigation and tested them with multiple participants.

One like a modal, one scrollable and one just reduced to 3 sites. The users preferred the scrollable navigation.

User testing
Before starting on the design process I defined the colors I would use. For this, I used the SDX Library which contains the set colors for Swisscom.

I choose to reduce the number of colors due to it being too many for just the app use. I focused the support color selection on colors that would be fit for showing various states.

The USP of the "My Blue" App is the personalization aspect of it. The user can decide which use cases and services are most useful to them and put them on their Dashboard to always have them in sight.
